A visit from Santa

Cat Hammill

Cotton On
Even though I have been very naughty and haven't posted in a long long time, I was lucky enough to still get a visit from Santa. It may be late but I hope you all had a very happy Christmas and were spoilt rotten. I have decided to share with you some of the presents I got. It's not all of them but I thought it would do for now. So the first is a ghd (the black mat under the bracelets is from my ghd kit!). I am uber excited to try out different styles with it but mostly just excited to be an owner of a ghd. Second is the bracelets from Cat Hammill. I don't really wear much jewelry but I fell in love with these as soon as I ripped the wrapping paper off them. You can buy a few and stack them up hippy style or stick with one or two. At the moment I have three with the colour theme of burnt orange ( which I am also loving and is very in fashion right now). They are made in lots of other brighter colours which I am hoping to add to my collection. Finally the third, swimmers. I already have a huge collection of swimmers but I am always more than happy to add to it. I originally wanted aztec printed swimmers (it has become my favourite prints) but instead got these, which I also love. They remind me of the House of Holland dress, bright and almost Mexican. I love the zig-zag stripe print and colours used. Even though these are only a few things I got (Clothing wise I also got a dress and a beach dress) I was spoilt and I had great Christmas was family. I hope it was the same for you...

Weekly Wish List: Beach Bag

Country Road Techno Tote

Even though they are one of the most common bags around most people wouldn't be brave enough to let them face the environment of the beach or pool. Mainly because of how much they've spent on it. I admit I am one of those people.  So when I saw this new creation I was very excited. It just screams summer and I love the bright blue straps. I know it's not very original to have a bag made from see through plastic but it's still cool. Though there are two things putting me off. First, the cost. If I can only possibly use it for three months a year then it's probably not worth the $60. The second, the see through bit. Yes that's the part that makes it cool but it also makes me worried... do I really want anyone and everyone to see what I'm carrying around? There is also no where to keep your valuables. So unless your really sneaky with your hiding, have a water proof phone (if so where is it from, I want one!) or just don't need to bring anything at all. The see through part causes a minor problem. Despite all that it still is my item of want for the week...

Shemale

Confused? I know I was when I first saw pictures of him. Yes it is in fact a him. His name is Andrej Pejic. He grew up in Melbourne. So he's an Aussie! He's becoming very popular in the modeling industry for both men and womens modeling. Still shocked... well something even more shocking is it's natural. Andrej hasn't had surgery to become a women. He was just born like that. Now he's using it to his advantage and modeling as both women and men. I'm still not sure about it. At first I was really creeped out about it. How are we sapose to know if he's being a man or a women... too confusing. But now I don't mind it so much. It's still a bit creepy but if I looked like that why not get extra money by being both a man and a women...

What do you think? Is it too weird? Should he stick to one gender?

On Top

MinkPink Burning Man Tank

Cotton On Flynn Sleeveless Shirt

My summer wardrobe is terrible. I have some trouble with it and I can never seem to get it right. Like in one of my previous posts, Not So Shorts I can't find the right shorts. Now I dealing with my issue of summer tops. Like the shorts, these too I struggle with. So I have found two tanks that could possible change that. The first being from of course my favourite, Mink Pink. I love the simple loose style of it and the pattern. I am loving aztec at the moment so it fits in perfectly. It's also different from the many stripped things I own. The second tank however is stripped (I couldn't resist). This ones from Cotton On. Cotton On has done much for me lately in terms of clothes. They use to be cheap and have some really good pieces but they have seemed to have changed that. So I was really surprised when I found this tank which was reasonable. I love everything about it. The colours are pretty much my favourite and of course the stripes. I also really like how the front does up. It gives it a more casual feel seeing as it is made almost shirt like. Now the only issue is am I going to get them? Well see this is where I think my summer wardrobe problem actually lies... It's Christmas time so most of money goes to presents and things not leaving me much for clothes...So may be my issue isn't that I can't find anything for summer rather I just can't buy it because of the time of year. New years sales, I'm waiting for you!

Newspaper Nails

Yes I am holding the new Frankie!
With the new nail art trend becoming more and more popular, I decided to give them a go. The pictures are quite dodgy (sorry!) but they are newspaper nails. I basically painted my nails the colour I wanted and then transferred newspaper print onto them. How, you ask... Well the trick was to use something with alcohol in it. The instructions I was using suggested vodka but I stuck with using the little alcohol wipes you use when you get a cut. They seemed to work quite well. This was my first time doing it so they weren't too amazing but I still think they look pretty cool. I'll keep practising! Though the queen of nail art, Alexa Chung has the most amazing type of nail art.

I would love to be able to do these ones myself because they are absolutely gorgeous. But somehow I don't think that's even close to being possible. I love the green colour and how it gradually gets stronger. I also love how it'd made up of little crystal type things. May be I'll be able to get it done in a proper nail salon...

Mullet Dresses

So I've done two things wrong recently... First I am skipping Weekly Wish List because I don't have anything I want ( even with Christmas coming up!) and second I haven't made a post in a long while. Sorry for both of those! Seeing as my formal was on Friday night, I decided to write about a popular style of formal dress. A dress I like to call, the mullet dress.

Long at the back, short at the front. I am a little unsure about them though. If worn by the right person they can look really good but on others it can look terrible, just like a mullet. I think it's because it's not a really flattering cut. It doesn't do much in terms of making your legs look longer or making you look taller. So if you are going to wear a mullet dress you would have to have long legs or be tall. I do like the fact though that they are a different to a normal straight hemmed dress. I like how there are lots of different layers in the dress above compared to the one mullet layer dresses. I also think they material used would has to be plain. If it's printed it would take away from the hem and be a bit overpowering. I also think the top half has to be simple and like most of the mullet dresses I have seen, strapless. Even though I've given them a bad name I don't think the mullet dress is that bad. I'm just not one hundred percent convinced yet...

Are you convinced? Will the mullet dress stay for long?

Weekly Wish List: Mexican Stripes

Stripe Sleeve T-Shirt

Stripe Poncho Dress
This week I am really loving the material used in House of Holland's resort collection. Of course I am the biggest fan of stripes but this has a Mexican twist. I also love the bright colours used. I have been getting a little bored with colour blocking so instead I have been going for bright Aztec or Mexican style prints. My three favourites of the collection is the stripe t-shirt, shorts and the stripe poncho dress. The dress would be the easiest to wear. Not having to worry about what matches with it. I also really like the style of the dress. I'm a big fan of high collars and I love how the hem is not straight giving a good contrast to the simple top half. The shorts wouldn't be too hard either and they are a little more subtle. Even subtler would have to be the t-shirt. I think the t-shirt would only work well with the shorts. Otherwise I think it would be too plain and verge on looking like a rash vest (the t-shirts people wear when swimming...).

What do you think, too bright to wear in real life?

All That Glitters

Sportsgirl Disco Mini-Dress
Sportsgirl Frankie Dress

Sequins are becoming more and more popular in clothing. Slowly we are getting use to the fact that they can be worn by people other than five year old dancers. This trend has been adapted from the fashions of the 1920's and yes I am a big fan. Though if you are going to wear this trend you can't do it half heartedly. It only works well if it's a full sequined top or dress. It also has to be a simple style. If the piece of clothing is too intricate it will take away from the amazing detail of the sequins. The only thing with this trend is the cost. Both of these dresses cost quite a bit... between $200-$300! Probably because of the crazy amount of stitching involved. My favourite out of these two dresses is the aztec style printed one. The colours are brighter and lighter. Gives it more of a summery feel. Though I like the simple two strapped style of the second one. If I had the patience I would probably attempt to sew one but it would probably take me until next year and I think I've had enough of hand sewing for now.

Weekly Wish List: Straw Thing

A new post... yes what a shock! Sorry for the long time no post thing again... Exams take over pretty much everything but I promise that won't be happening for a while now.

Sportsgirl Casual Straw Sling
The first thing I think of when someone says straw is the matching little girls' straw hat and bag set. Overused, saggy and pink with a couple of fake flowers. But the new woven straw trend is a little bit more fashionable than that. The picture is of the bag but I didn't actually see the bag. I saw a wallet version which is what I am after. The colours don't quite work together which gives it a more of a hippy feel (besides the fact it's woven straw). My favorite part is the pattern. I haven seen much of it. Though I don't know how it would look in a piece of clothing but I definitely like it as an accessory piece. I think it could also work in favour of wearing hats in the summer. A nice woven straw hippy style hat could soon replace fedoras, something I would be quite happy with seeing as fedoras never worked for me. So I'm getting ready to embrace my inner hippy and wear this new woven straw trend starting with that wallet... hopefully...

Are you ready for the woven hippy trend or will you avoid it all together?

Summer Nails

When I went away recently, I was lucky enough to get a manicure and pedicure. My only problem was choosing the colour nail polish I wanted. It had to match the dress I was going to be wearing to the wedding and last until then. Luckily for me the dress goes with any colour... I may feature a photo of it later. When the lady was about to start painting, I was forced to choose. Somehow I managed to choose this colour and I'm glad I did. It's my new favorite. It's not a soft pastel or a colour block. It's just simple pink. It seemed summery and fresh. But I don't know if that's because it's up against my pale skin... The colour also somehow seemed to work well with everything. Not too overpowering. I seriously just love this colour. Thought I am yet to find the actual nail polish in this colour... so until then I am holding on the bits of this nail polish still clinging to my toe nails...

P.S sorry for the ugly foot model.

Weekly Wish List: Block Florals

Versace for H&M

Miranda Kerr, Harper's Bazaar November

This week's weekly wish list item isn't really specific. More just a print I would love to have in a piece of clothing. I don't really know what to call it other than block floral. It's sort of floral but it isn't really. It's more about the interesting prints and the bright colours. These photos are two of my favorite examples of the print. The first one is from the new Versace for H&M collection. I love the dress/leggings and the bright blues and greens. I also like the hint of gold in the jacket but I don't really like the leopard print in the jacket. The second one is from a photo shot in Harper's Bazaar. I love the print of the bra, it's more of a fruit salad style print but there is something about the skirt that I like the best. I think it's that the colours and the print are more of a Mediterranean style and are less bright but still stand out in their own way. The only thing about this print is I think it would only work well in real life on real people, if it were in a skirt. I would be casual enough to wear during the day and still work well at night. So now I am on the look out for this print in a skirt. This print has made itself one of my new favorites...

P.S I bought the Tie-dye Minkpink shorts... the ones featured in one of my earlier posts.

Pleated Shoes

Pleated Bootie Black

We've had pleated skirts, dresses, shorts, tops anything you could want in clothing really. But what about pleated shoes? I thought I'd seen enough of pleats for a while. But I love these shoes. When you think of pleats you usually think of flowy and girly but these shoes change that. They are totally different and I wouldn't call them girly. They aren't like anything I've seen. The lace up at the front and the peep toe work so well together. They can be worn in both winter and summer. Just how long they will be in fashion for is the only problem. So you're probably wondering where they are from... Well if you've read a few of my posts you'll be guessing either Minkpink or May. And if you are thinking that you must know me super well or be a mind reader because yes these beauties are made by the lovely people of May. To make them even better they are on sale with free express shipping.  From $249 to $125, they are a bargain. What I can't believe is that they still have any left.

Weekly Wish List: May be everything

Easy Singlet

Hamilton Dress- Blue Floral

Lyla Dress

Hamilton Dress

Hayden Dress
May's Summer 2011 collection, Two Hearts has definitely won my heart. I had trouble choosing which one I liked best. They have some great simple classic pieces and then the more modern pieces.  But I definitely like the blue floral print. It's featured through their collection and I think it's perfect for summer. It's not quite a floral print but more of a tie dye. Either way I like it much better than the over done colour blocking. Even though I love the blue floral print I can't forget the little black dress. I love the style of it but I am not too sure about the belt. I also love the white Hamilton dress. The top of the dress reminds me of a top I had when I was in primary school and I really like the different layers of skirt. Though by itself I think it would a bit childish so you would have to buy both the dress and the rose coloured top. Out of these couple of pictures, my favorite blue floral print item would have to be the Easy singlet and my favorite classic dress would be the white Hamilton dress (more white for me!).

Which one is your favorite?

You Dropped Your Pockets

Last year when I got some new shorts I tried them on and hanging out the bottom were the pockets. At first I thought that they were just made wrong by someone who was being lazy (like me). So every time I wore them, I would fold the pockets up so you couldn't see them. Which then meant I couldn't actually keep anything in them because they were folded up. When looking around at fellow wearers I realised they must be hiring some seriously lazy sewers if their is this many people with pockets hanging out. So I decided to go with it. Why not? And yes, they're back this year. I'll admit I do like the trend but only worn some ways. See they only work if your good at the, yeah I just woke up looking the right amount of rock and hippie at the same time what of it. They also don't work if you actually want to use your pockets as pockets. They may look like pockets but they are t just there for that, looks. If you try to fill them, you'll get a fat thing hanging out the bottom of your shorts. Though I'm still undecided weather I like them or not. Either way they're back.

What do you think?

Weekly Wish List: More Shorts

Insight Romantic Floral Shorts

I really like these shorts. I first found them when I was away looking for Minkpink shorts. They look a little different in real life. The floral print is much more bright and there is less white. My favorite part is how summery they are. They are different from denim and tie-dye. A little more girlie. If you are daring you could wear them with a clashing t-shirt that is striped or if your like me a simple plain top would do me good. So your wondering why don't I own them if I saw them when I was away... Well you see I was planning on buying them until I tried them on. It's not that they don't look good or are really short. It's just that their sizes are really funny. The smaller size is too small and then the next size up is too big. I am hoping they will create a size in between and that's when I will buy them. I guess I am still on the look for the best pair of shorts... hopefully I'll find some before the hot weather comes.

Where d'ya go?

I owe you an apology (or two) and you all know what it's for. For not posting anything for two weeks! :O
So I am very very very very sorry and next time I go away I will try to be more organised and may be plan some posts.
In case you were wondering I had a great holiday and ended up shopping which I wasn't planning on doing. Not like me, I know. If anything I was only planing on spending $50 but some how I ended up buying a tad more than that. Just a tad. I got so excited because in nearly every shop there was Minkpink. So I went into every little boutique in hope of finding some of their wonderfull pieces that I have been wanting. Unfourtunately I was very disapointed... There was the dress from my Mexicano post but only in sizes 12 and 14. Every other peice I wanted was non-exsistant to them. That was the end of my Minkpink high for that week. Instead, ta da!

Converse High Tops

Ladakh Feather Print Cami
I love my Big-W $6 sneakers but it's time to move on... I originally wanted red low tops but of course when the distributor was called, there was none left in my size in Australia. That's ok high tops are cool too! The top was in the cutest shop ever called Hunt the Fox. It had some other really cool peices in their. To make me feel less guilty about spending money when I wasn't going to, this lovely top happened to be on sale. I had been looking for something feather printed for ages. I had seen a beautifull dress with feathers embrioded on it and feel in love with it ever since. I love this print so much I was planing on even using it in my corset (But instead used snake skin). Finding the top definately made my day after my Minkpink and shoe troubles.

P.S I'm sorry again!

Finito!

The inspiration...

And the final product...

Countless hours of hand sewing. A million times of unpicking.  A few outbursts of anger and I am finally finished. Finito! It may have not turned out how I originally planned with everything working well but it’s done (and my goodness I couldn’t be happier). For those who have seen it in the making, hopefully you actually like it much more than you did when it was a piece of green material sewn here and there. Those who couldn’t quite picture it with my crazy descriptions, I hope you can now or else you might need to get your eyes checked.  And those of you who (pretty much all of you) who have put up with my whining about it, aren't you happy it's over (for now)... I still love Katy's dress but mine turned out softer. The strap is different and I didn't use a jaggered hem. My pleats on the bodice are also different. I think they are a little flatter but I can't really tell from the picture of Katy's dress. One thing I keep getting asked about it is when are you going to wear it? Ahhh Good question... I don't know. Right now all I care about is handing it in, getting a good mark for it and forgetting about it for a little while.

P.S. I am going away for ten days and haven't yet planned any posts for when I am gone. So if I have time and Internet, I promise I will try to post but other wise I am really sorry! I'll make up for it when I come back.

Clutch Onto It

Nine West Fun And Fancy

I think I've found it. A clutch for formal. This was seriously just luck, which is rare for the most of us. It's a soft tie dye of pinks and a little grey. It doesn't match perfectly with my shoes, but I don't know if the bag and shoe matching rule stands any more. It can be worn ever the shoulder or held onto like a clutch. My favourite part of it is the pattern and shape. It's a contrast to my sparkly dress but I think it would work well. I am not really a fan of clutches so finding this is a great relief. It's not a typical clutch and most importantly I can wear it again. I started off wanting snake skin shoes for formal and I am ending up wanting a tie dye clutch...

What do you think?

These Are It

Rusty Hard Candy One-Piece
Where was the weekly wish list yesterday? I know... there was none but that's because I got so much for my birthday that I really didn't need any more! But good news is I tried the last weekly wish list swimmers on and remembered the brand. This is the only photo of them I can find (the ones on the right). Now, instead I am sticking to my original plan of making my own one-piece which may or may not turn out like this one. I've got my drawings, pattern and material and I am ready to go crazy trying to make them perfect. I don't know how long they are going to take me but I am hoping by Friday... I'll keep you posted on how that goes. One other thing I've realised from these swimmers is that I am a swimmeraholic. Most people have a weakness for shoes or bags or something normal. But well of course for me it's not normal. It's swimmers. Every shop I go into that has swimmers I manage to find a few pairs that I absolutely must have (but don't). Now I'll see how making some goes and whether it will put me off swimmers for good.

Seeing Red

I have found my new favourite spring outfit. Yes, I've moved on from white (I think) but now it seems to be about Gossip Girl. It might possibly be because I've watched too many episodes in the last twelve hours but I like to think that there is no such thing as too many... The thing I love the most about this outfit is the red maxi skirt. Seeing as people are turning to coloured jeans and especially, baby pink pants, I think this skirt would work much better. I also like how it's teamed with a light blue vest and jewelry. Normally when red and blue are worn together all I can think of is a school uniform. In this outfit the blue is light and subtle enough to work well. And of course the animal skin bag. I can't really tell whether the bag is snake skin or crocodile skin... either would work but I like to think it's snake skin because I am still obsessed with snake skin (and those black snake skin shoes!). Speaking of shoes, the shoes in this outfit are kept a simple tan colour so we are not taken away from the rest of the bright outfit.

So is the red skirt too much? Or is it just as bad as coloured jeans?

Heading That Way

Being a massive Gossip Girl fan, I never stopped loving headbands after they came out off fashion. Seeing as Valentino featured them on their models in their recent shows. I'm guessing they are on their way back in. Though this time I am liking the simple black velvet headband over brighter ones. Sorry Blair! I don't know if this is really a summer trend though. It's not exactly something that can be worn to the pool or with beach hair. So we'll either have to wait until next winter or try to lap it up now. I say now. After being so mad about not being able to wear messy hair, this will be a great alternative. Just in time for the Gossip Girl season five premiere... !
